National Punctuation Day

September 24 (which is Saturday)  is National Punctuation Day!  (I didn't know that until I read a post at TBA and followed the link to the Organized Classroom Blog.

I loved this:  Let's eat Grandpa.
                    Let's eat, Grandpa.

If you are Grandpa, punctuation is extremely important!

I am going to try to celebrate it on Monday, since it is on Saturday.

Favorite Books Linky Party

Runde's Room is having a linky party about favorite books.

Childhood Books-- I really didn't have a favorite book. As a child, we went to the library every Saturday. We checked out books for a week and we were expected by our parents to have read all of those books by the next Saturday. I just found a shelf that I thought looked interesting and just read down the shelf. The books changed with my mind each week.

Classroom Favorites--It has been many years since I have taught where I was given time to read to my class. When I was allowed to do what was best for my students, my favorite book to read was The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson. Now I would have to say the one of the only books I can sneak in is during my unauthorized Pi Day, we eat pie and I read them Sir Circumference and the Knights of the Round Table.

Guilty Pleasure--I love cookbooks. I have way too many for the little bit I cook anymore. lol I also like to read the series written by Terri Blackstock.

Professionally--I am still rereading the Book Whisperer trying to get my chapter reviews written. I really enjoyed the book.

New Product -- Find My Pet Reading PowerPoint

This PowerPoint show gives students the opportunity to practice reading aloud. 

Each slide has 4 sentences with a child standing beside the sentences.

The  boxes with the pets will NOT appear unless the child is clicked on.  This gives the instructor the option of when to show the pictures.  If the child is not clicked on, the PowerPoint will progress as if the the option of the pictures are not there.  If the correct pet is chosen, a picture with the child and the pet being reunited will appear.

There is a coordinating worksheet that has students drawing their pet, telling how many legs it has, and what color box they have put it in.

Plural Nouns

The 22 slide PowerPoint focuses on the correct spelling of plurals.  Each rule is accompanied by two example words that follow the rule when they are changed from their singular form.

To help students learn the rules, only one rule is presented per slide.

At the conclusion of this PowerPoint, there is a chart that students complete.  This chart has a self-checking option which provides immediate feedback to the class if used on a Smart Board.

Homophone and Commonly Confused PowerPoint Four in A Row Game

This 37-slide PowerPoint game has students choosing the correct word to complete each sentence.  This can be a two-person game or a classroom game. One side is red and one is black.  It is a fun game to play using the white board on can be used on a computer and played by two students.


This plays just like the Connect Four game in a box, except you can choose spots anywhere on the board.

If the team gets the correct answer, they get the marker representing their color.  If they are wrong, the other side gets the marker.

The questions on this game deal with homophones and commonly confused words.  This is fun practice of words for mandated testing.
