Take care and I appreciate your patience.

Pipe Cleaner Animals

Lines Across My Face Blog has a cute DIY to do with students.  I could see doing this as a "reward" activity.  The cost would be minimal.  I think some of my "older" students in upper elementary would get a kick out of making these.  Let the imagination go!

Web Based Subscriptions-Your Opinion

Do you use web based subscriptions in your classroom?  Are they by choice or are they mandated by your district? How much time do you give your students to work on these activities?  Do they use them only at school or are they available from home as well?  Who paid for the subscription?

I have had the opportunity to use a few web based subscriptions with my students over the years.  Sometimes it was mandated by the district I was working in and the district paid for it, and sometimes it wasn't.  Sometimes it was district wide and sometimes the subscription was only available to my students.

I have not said what programs I have used on purpose.  I would like to have your recommendations on which program you would recommend and why.  I am sure there are programs available that I don't even know about. My readers always amaze me with their knowledge.

If you like a specific web base subscription, please share it in the comment section below and if you would  please tell us why.  If someone has already shared that program, please comment also.

I like to know every one's opinions.  In the same sense if you would never want a web based program, please share that and why.

The only limitation is we all have to agree to disagree politely.  :0)

(I hope you choose the subscription I have for the next celebration on Vintage Teacher!)

Trouble Viewing Blog

Hello to my Blogging Friends:

Several people have written me and said they were having trouble viewing my blog, while others are having no trouble at all.

I have asked people who know about blogs and html. to try to find the problem.  When they are viewing it, they don't see a problem.  Please be assured that I am working on trying to solve the problem.

I have been contacted today about not being able to access the Friday Freebies because you can't read the page.

This is the only solution I can come up with at this time.  If you sign up for following by email, you will be sent all the posts once a day and you can get to the links, etc. that way.  I subscribe by email and I only get them once a day.

If you are unable to sign up by email, if you will email me at  vintageteacher  {at} comcast {dot} net with the email address you want used, I will put it in.  A confirmation email will be sent to you.  You will have to confirm to get the email to start the subscription.

I will also send you this week's Friday Freebie in an email.  I tried it with someone last night and it worked for them.

Please know that I am trying to find out what the issue is.  If you send me an email, if you don't mind, would you put in what browser you are using.  It has been suggested to me that it might be a browser issue.  When I checked it, I could see the entire thing with Internet Explorer 9, Chrome, and Firefox.

Again, I apologize for your inconvenience and I appreciate your following my blog more than you know.

Thanks,
Vintage Teacher

Special Butterfly Born

Special Butterfly Born!

Only 0.01 per cent of hatching butterflies are born as gynandromorphs, which is the scientific term for these half and half butterflies.

To read the short paragraph about this half male and half female butterfly click on the picture.  It also says that there are some other animals that can be born as gynandromorphs.

I found this at GoGo Planet News.  Big News for Little People in their articles for today.  They have all kind of articles on a lot of different things.

I am hoping to use some of their articles this year since we don't have funds to order the subscription weekly reader type magazines.  I also thought they could be used for short summaries, important details, main idea, etc.  Plus, it is a way to help my students learn about the things in the world and current events without any cost.

Are You a Vintage Teacher?

This is the second post I posted on my blog and I had NO followers of any kind.  I wanted to share it again today as food for thought.  Vintage may or may not mean old.  :0)  Have a great day.

Being a "Vintage Teacher" is, in my opinion, something to be proud of and we all should strive to be. Look at the following meanings of vintage:
  • representing the high quality of a past time
  • old-fashioned
  • being the best of its kind

Being of a past time isn't a bad thing. Look at all the lessons that you have learned in the past from your students and/or when you were a student. I have learned many lessons in my past, some of which I hope not to repeat. :0)

I am old-fashioned. I admit to it. It is my belief that there has to be some amount of order and attention for my students to learn. (For the record, quiet and order are not synonyms. Additionally, learning and having fun are NOT antonyms.)

I especially like the being the best of its kind. Don't we all strive to be the best kind of teacher for our students?

Are you a "Vintage Teacher"? I hope I am!

Mardel's Education Sale is Thursday

With all the back to school shopping going on, I thought I would post a little reminder in case you have a Mardels in your area.  The Education Sale is day after tomorrow, Thursday,  and they have extended hours.

If you don't have free lamination at school or unable to get to it, they also have lamination for 25 cents a foot regularly.  That is the best price I can find in the area I live in.

Magnetic Silly Putty

Watch this video.    Yes, silly putty, the stuff inside the egg shaped toy.  If you teach magnets, this would be an awesome attention getter.  I know it would get my attention.

Have you seen this DIY project or tried it?  If you have, please share your experience in the comment section.

I think it looks like great fun.  Wouldn't it be a blast to watch the students in your rooms faces when it starts moving or when it "swallows" the magnet.    Got to love it!!!!!!  Click the picture below to go to the DIY project.
